An Ontario university student will be the first ever to defend a doctoral thesis in the Mi’kmaq language.

An Ontario university student will be the first ever to defend a doctoral thesis in the Mi’kmaq language.

Most graduate work in Canadian universities has been done in English or French.

But Alfred Metallic of the Listiguj band in Quebec was able to convince York University to hear his thesis in his Mi’kmaq tongue.

Metallic is doing his thesis on the oral history of his people.
