‘Unreasonable, invalid and unlawful’: Fish farm company challenges feds

A fish farm company in B.C. is challenging the federal government’s refusal to renew the licences of open-net farms off the coast of Vancouver Island.

Documents filed in Vancouver Federal Court show Mowi Canada West applied for a judicial review of the federal fisheries minister’s decision to shutter 15 salmon farms.

The application seeks an order to set aside the February decision.

And asks the court to refer the matter back to Joyce Murray and declare it “unreasonable, invalid and unlawful.”

The federal government has not responded to the application.
