First Nation athletes have a long and strong history of playing sports in our country.

But too many of them have not made it into the history books.

This is from one author who has written his own book about the history of sports in Mi’kmaq and Maliseet communities.

Jason Peters is the author of Ab-Originals: Atlantic Canadian Aboriginal Sport Heroes.

Peters says the book is meant to teach history through sports and to inspire First Nations youth to follow their dreams.

APTN National News reporter Taryn Della caught up with the author Wednesday.
