Chief Theresa Spence spent the night in hospital as a precaution after 44 days without eating solid food.
By mid-afternoon Thursday, she surprised everyone by appearing at an Ottawa hotel where a ceremony in her honour was already underway.
This brought a huge media horde, with Spence’s supporters struggled to control.
Spence took the opportunity to issue a call for unity and to send a message to her fellow chiefs.
