Ottawa urged to pick up pace on amending Indian Act in Descheneaux case

Feds have until February to makes changes.

In August 2015, Stephane Descheneaux won his court case against the federal government.

His three daughters will not only inherit his culture, but also his Indian Status as a member of the Abenakis of Odanak First Nation.

But it’s a race against time.

The federal government has until February to make the necessary legislative amendments to the Indian Act.

But some say they need to pick up the pace.
