Yellowknife’s Giant Mine was once the driving force behind the northern economy for its rich gold deposits, the mine is now a toxic liability and home to hundreds of thousands of tonnes of arsenic trioxide.

An ambitious clean up plan is underway to freeze the arsenic in place forever but it’s not just what’s underground that has people concerned.
