Sen. Patrick Brazeau was freed on bail Friday morning after being charged with assault and sexual assault.

The charges stem from an incident at his home yesterday.

Brazeau was arrested Thursday at about 9:10 a.m. after Gatineau police received a 911 call on a domestic violence allegation.

Police arrested Brazeau, questioned him at the police station later in the afternoon and detained him overnight.

Police also searched his home and had it under their control for most of the day.

Due to a court ordered publication ban, Brazeau’s alleged victim can’t be identified.

Besides the assault charge, Brazeau has been charged with a form of sexual assault with a maximum penalty of 18 months in provincial jail.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper booted Brazeau from the Conservative Caucus Thursday after hearing about the arrest.

Brazeau was released on $1,000 bail. He’s been ordered not to contact the alleged victim and stay at a residence in Maniwaki, Que.

He’s allowed to attend his home in Gatineau but told a judge he’d be staying in Maniwaki.

Before leaving the Gatineau courthouse, Brazeau signed release papers then faced a massive group of media waiting for him.

With the help of security guards he pushed his way down some stairs and through an exit.

He left in a black truck driven by a woman.

This is sad, especially after he was so critical of the IDM Movement and the sacrifice of Chief Spence. Joseph Addison says, “It is ridiculous for any man to criticize the works of another if he has not distinguished himself with his own performances.” Hope he can take this opportunity to ‘fail forward’.

  2. You reap, what you sow Brazeau. who does he turn to now,for help in this matter, certainly not the First Nations. We all know what he thinks of us as First Nations.

  3. a mans main job on this earth is to protect the women. shame on you for failing in such a horrendous way. my prayers are going out to the woman who was attacked
