A well know northern reality star could be trading in his 18-wheeler for a pickaxe and shovel.

Ice road trucker Alex Debogorski recently got permission to explore for diamonds at Drybones Bay, which sits 50 kilometres southeast of Yellowknife.

The review board said that the project “will have no significant adverse impacts on the environment or be a cause for public concern.”

But First Nations in the area are still opposed to the idea.

Drybones Bay holds great spiritual significance to the Yellowknives Dene and is home to traditional hunting and burial grounds.
