In 1998, the film Smoke Signals premiered to wide acclaim. Its lead character Victor Joseph was the break-out role for Anishinaabe actor, Adam Beach. But playing Victor's childhood self was Cody Lightning, a Cree actor who was only a pre-teen at the time. Now nearing forty years old, Lightning makes his directorial debut with a mockumentary comedy film called Hey, Viktor! Starring as a fictionalized version of his real-life self, the film follows Lightning while he attempts to make a sequel to Smoke Signals with the hopes of revitalizing his career.
