Cathy Merrick becomes first woman grand chief of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs

It was a historical by-election for the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs on Wednesday, where 59 chiefs from First Nations throughout Manitoba voted for their new grand chief. Cathy Merrick is the first woman elected grand chief since the assembly’s inception in 1988.
