What Allister Surette’s appointment to rebuild trust between fishers in Nova Scotia entails

It has been over a month since Sipekne’katik First Nation launched their moderate livelihood management plan. The violence from the non-Indigenous fishermen began immediately. The federal government appointed Allister Surette to rebuild trust between the fishers. Allister Surette’s appointment has been met with concerns about his objectivity and his limited experience with Indigenous affairs and treaty rights. Surette joins APTN National News to explain what his appointment entails.
