The school director from the Atikamekw Nation community of Manawan in Quebec pleaded for help from federal officials after the death of 37 year old Joyce Echaquan. He was joined by Echaquan’s 16 year old son Thomas-James Echaquan. The mother of seven filmed an unknown number of healthcare workers making racist remarks to her before she died in a hospital in Joliette, outside Montreal. While Quebec has called for a coroner’s investigation, many have called for more.
