A coalition of Mi’kmaq fishers partners buy Clearwater Seafoods

A coalition of Mi’kmaq fishers have partnered with Vancouver-based Premium Brands to buy Clearwater Seafoods – Atlantic Canada’s largest wild seafood company. The billion dollar deal was a plot twist in the ongoing lobster issue on the East Coast. It comes after months of violence by furious non-Indigenous lobster fishers against Mi’kmaq lobster harvesters who started a moderate livelihood fishery. The mega-deal was led by Chief Terry Paul of the Membertou First Nation who joins APTN National News to explain how long the deal has been in the works.
