A fire burning in northern Manitoba has forced the evacuation of the Marcel Colomb First Nation. The community sits more than a 1,000 km northwest of Winnipeg.
Tired and frustrated evacuees from the Garden Hill First Nation marched to Manitoba’s legislative building Thursday demanding better accommodations until conditions allow them to return home.
As fires continue to burn throughout northern Manitoba- community members from across Winnipeg are volunteering their services to help thousands of evacuees.
They held out as long as they could, but the fires around Williams Lake, British Columbia came too close. By the start of the weekend, the one highway running south was jammed with people fleeing the flames.
