British Columbia’s NDP leader Adrian Dix says that if he’s elected premier he would withdraw from the current environmental assessment of the Northern Gateway pipeline project and set up a made-in B.C. review instead.
The National Energy Board has given a green light for an increase of 27,000 barrels of oil to pass daily through the Trans-Mountain pipeline which run from refineries in Edmonton to Burnaby, B.C.
The area round the controversial Prosperity mine site was once a no-go zone for development. The provincial government put a stop to much smaller projects a few years ago citing concerns over fish habitat and First Nations rights.
