OTTAWA —
New Brunswick RCMP have launched a criminal investigation into allegations of vote buying on the Burnt Church reserve, according to RCMP Const. Chantal Farrah.

The Neguac RCMP is leading the investigation, but they have also been in contact with the commercial crime unit in Fredericton, Farrah said.

An officer with the Neguac RCMP initially told APTN they would not be investigating for fear it would damage relations with the band council.

Farrah said the officer who made the comments was misunderstood because he speaks French and has trouble with English.
