Unvaccinated 56 times more likely to end up in critical care say B.C. experts

The B.C. Centre for Disease Control says that people in British Columbia who remain unvaccinated are 56 times more likely to end up in critical care from COVID-19.

The province had 1,100 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend bringing the total active cases to 3,051 as of the posting of this story.

With the Omicron variant now threatening to become the dominant strain across the country, officials in B.C. say it’s time for people to show restraint.

“We should not be having large parties indoors particularly with people we don’t know, where we don’t know their vaccination status,” says Dr. Bonnie Henry, the provincial health officer in B.C.

“That’s where this virus is taking hold and spreading rapidly and we know that is going to be even more of a risk with omicron.”
