Traditional ricer shares tricks of the trade dating back thousands of years

Jeff Beaver is a traditional ricer who has been harvesting wild rice every year for the past 27 seasons.

Since the end of August, Beaver has been out on the water gathering grain from rice beds around the lakes.

It’s an old tradition, and an important staple for the Anishnaabe that dates back thousands of years.

This year he’s been trying to pass along the tradition.
