APTN News
A residential school survivor from the Anishinaabe community of Lac Simon is now sharing her culture with youth.

Jeannette Papatie Brazeau testified at the Quebec inquiry into relations between Indigenous people and the public service in Val-d’Or on Thursday.

She spoke of the hardships she went through, the suffering her parents endured and the pressure put on her family to send their kids to residential school.

For the past decade, Brazeau has been helping survivors and teaching youth about her traditions.

The inquiry will continue in Val-d’Or next week with testimony on youth protection services.
