‘Several armed suspects’ at large in Witchekan Lake First Nation: RCMP

Spiritwood RCMP in Saskatchewan issued an emergency alert Monday afternoon after shootings occurred in Witchekan Lake First Nation located 200 km north of Saskatoon.

“Several armed suspects at large, possibly on foot,” said the release from the Spiritwood RCMP. “At this time, it’s not believed to be connected to the James Smith Cree Nation investigation.

“Suspects may be in mid-2000s dark red Mustang.”

Police are asking people to shelter in place until the incident is resolved.

On Sunday, two men attacked and killed 10 people and injured another 15 in James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon – a local village – located 215 km east of Witchekan.

RCMP in Saskatchewan say arrest warrants have been issued for Myles Sanderson, 30, who is facing three counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of break and enter.

Damien Sanderson, 31, faces one count each of first-degree murder, attempted murder and break and enter.

They say a dangerous persons’ alert for the suspects has been extended and officers are using all resources to find the men.

Police say more charges are expected.
