On-reserve band constable program to end next year

APTN National News
The federal government has announced it will stop funding a band constable program next year.

This could mean hundreds of job losses and safety concerns on reserves across the country.

APTN’s Shaneen Robinson travelled to one First Nation in Manitoba where the chief and band are worried about what this will mean for their community.

  1. spiritbear1 says:

Good we will be safer here at Akwesasne

  2. This is very important for so many communities. Maybe some of the economic development profits can be used to keep these programs in place.

  3. I’d prefer the O.P.P. back like the Northeastern patrol…the N.A.P.S. officer could be migrated over to the O.P.P. force to save training funds. This way they still have jobs and maintain safety on-reserve, but backed up by the regular force.
