Prosecutors have approved a charge of assault against an RCMP constable.

Const. Andy Yung was accused by Abbotsford police of assaulting a woman who called 911 looking for help.

The police force recommended a charge of assault against Yung.

The assault charge stems from a complaint from a 17 year-old girl. She said that RCMP officers responded to her call for help by handcuffing her and putting her into the back of a police car.

Yung allegedly jumped into the back seat of the car and struck her six times in the face, leaving her battered and severely bruised.

The BC Civil Liberties Association says the family are pleased with the charges.
