Fred Schell, Nunavut’s cabinet minister of nothing, stepped down yesterday just before members of the legislative assembly were set to vote for his removal.

It was months ago that Schell was stripped of his cabinet roles, but not the position or salary. Schell had previously been found guilty of violating the Integrity Act six times, fined $10,000, but in his seven months as a minister without a portfolio, he continued to pocket a minister’s salary.

After a lengthy statement, Schell stepped down.
