An Indigenous owned grocery store and complex in Winnipeg is hoping the sale of its building will help get it out from under its debt.

The Neechi Commons complex has been struggling to pay off its debt since it opened in 2013.

It recently held a public auction to try and sell the building – but there were no takers.

Now the building will go on the open market.

“What we’ve been hoping and working for, for some time now was to invite a buyer who is a compatible buyer,” said Louis Champagne, president of Neechi Commons. “Someone who supports what Neechi is doing – someone who shares our values.”
