Last week the National Energy Board approved Kinder Morgan’s twinning of its existing Trans Mountain pipeline which would triple the company’s tripping capacity to carry bitumen from Alberta’s tarsands to its dock in Burnaby, B.C.

Although the board evaluated the safety of the pipeline itself, many say they stopped short of evaluation the safety of transporting that much bitumen on open water.
