The mysterious case of the Button Blanket puzzles Whitehorse cultural centre

“It showed up … I don’t know who made it, but it’s from the Yukon.”

Krista Reid has a mystery on her hands.

“It showed up … I don’t know who made it,” said Reid.

Reid is talking about a miniature blanket that arrived at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre this week in Whitehorse.

The blanket is not a traditional one in the sense that it would be worn as regalia in ceremonies or dances.

It’s adorned with abalone and mother of pearl buttons.

But who owned it and how did it make its way to Reid and the cultural centre?

APTN’s Shirley McLean looks for answers into the mysterious case of the Button Blanket.
