MP Lori Idlout localizes House of Commons swearing-in ceremony at home

The swearing-in ceremony for new MPs in Ottawa is typically a low-key affair.

People elected to Parliament swear an oath, sign their names and head off to get to work in the House of Commons.

Nunavut’s MP Lori Idlout wanted to do things a little differently.

She swore her oath at home – and the swearing-in became a showcase for Inuit culture.
