Mohawks sentenced for 2008 blockade

Six Mohawks from Tyendinaga involved in a 2008 blockade have escaped jail time.

.–Six Mohawks from Tyendinaga involved in a 2008 blockade have escaped jail time.

The five men and one woman, all from the Tyendinaga Mohawk reserve, received a one-year probation sentence.

Ontario Provincial Police had charged the six with mischief-related offenses.

Two more people will be sentenced next week.

The blockade was  sparked by a developer’s attempt to build on claimed Mohawk territory.
