MLA says old pipeline route turned hiking trail needs to be cleaned up

The Canol trail is said to be the toughest hiking trail in Canada.

It follows an old pipeline route through the Mackenzie mountains in the Northwest Territories.

One problem though, the trail is littered with abandoned oil barrels, contaminants and worst of all, hundreds of kilometers of old telephone cables – considered the biggest threat to hikers and wildlife.
