Mi’kmaq calling treatment of two arrested warriors a violation of charter rights

There are concerns that Mi’kmaq inmates in a New Brunswick jail are being denied access to spiritual services.

The provincial facility is where two Mi’kmaq warriors are awaiting trial.

They were arrested at a shale gas protest last fall.

Despite many requests for traditional ceremonies and medicines, an elder has been asked by staff to visit only once.

It has some Mi’kmaq outraged and calling this a violation of their charter rights.
