A Metis man in the Northwest Territories is taking both the territorial and federal governments to court over what he calls a violation of his Aboriginal and treaty rights.

Clem Paul says both governments violated his rights when they launched a civil claim of trespassing against him.

Earlier today, 15 boxes containing over 25,000 pages of evidence were wheeled into the Yellowknife courthouse in response.

The matter goes back nearly 10 years when Paul built a cabin on Prosperous Lake, 20 kilometres outside of Yellowknife.

Paul recognizes himself as a Mountain Island Metis, with Aboriginal and treaty rights to the land.

The government of the NWT disagrees.
