The Manitoba government has proposed new legislation that will strengthen the powers and responsibilities of the province’s child advocate.

Giving the child advocate more power was a recommendation of the Hughes Inquiry that examined the death Phoenix Sinclair, a five year old who was found beaten to death in 2005.

The extended powers are hope that her death is not repeated.
