Man in hospital after ‘exchange of fire’ with Iqaluit RCMP

An Iqaluit man who exchanged gunfire with police Wednesday is in hospital, RCMP said in a statement.

-An Iqaluit man who exchanged gunfire with police Wednesday is in hospital, RCMP said in a statement.

Iqaluit RCMP said there was an “exchange of fire” with an armed man in the early morning hours.

The man, who was carrying a rifle and aimed it at officers, fled after his face-off with police. He was later found by police found bleeding from the chest.

The man was taken to Qikitaani General Hospital where he is in stable but critical condition.

The RCMP initially responded to a report of gunshots when they encountered the man.

A second man is also in hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries related to the incident, RCMP said.

More details are expected at a press conference later this afternoon.
