The Labrador Innu Nation is signing a historic land claim with the federal and provincial governments today.

The land claims paves the way for the Lower Churchill hydro electric project at Muskrat Falls in central Labrador.

The deal demonstrates a considerable change in policy since the Upper Churchill hydro project was built in the 1960s and 1970s.

The Innu were not consulted for that hydro electric development project located on their lands.

This deal promises to bring millions of dollars to Labrador’s Innu as well as job opportunities during the construction phase.
