Kanehsatake moves towards healing 25 years after long hot summer of resistance

APTN National News
With the Anniversary of the start of the Mohawk resistance at Kanehsatake come and gone, people in the community say there are sings of healing and a longing to move towards a better future.

25 years ago, Kanehsatake made news around the world when Mohawk warriors went up against Quebec police and eventually the Canadian army over construction of an unwanted golf course on their territory.

The nearby council in Oka approved the course.

A police officer was killed during the stand-off.

APTN’s Danielle Rochette reports.
