Justice advocates in Yukon calling on government to get a move on building halfway house for women

Little word on project since tender went out in August

Former offenders and lawyers calling on the Yukon government to proceed with a plan to build a halfway house to help women transitioning away from jail or prison.

At the moment, women looking to transition back into society have to leave the territory or stay in jail.

In August the government put out a tender to build a halfway house – but since then, there has been little word on its progress.

APTN News asked the justice department for an interview on the halfway house but that request was denied.
