Indigenous artists reclaiming space in Northwest Territories with six murals

With every brushstroke, 21 Indigenous artists and countless community members are reclaiming space in the Northwest Territories.

The non-profit organization Strong People, Strong Communities has been working the past year to bring the week-long mural festival to life.

For artists like Kyla LeSage, it’s been a rewarding experience.

“I wouldn’t be in this mural project without the reconnecting to my land and my family and traditions. As we are painting I’m like this is soothing,” said LeSage.

Organizers say they are securing locations for six murals to be hung this fall.
