With an undisputed housing crisis on many First Nations some leaders are seeking out new innovative ways to meet the needs of their people.

Enter Habitat for Humanity. This non-profit has a new national program designed to help put First Nation families i homes.

In British Columbia Habitat has partnered with the Tsawassenn First nation to build up to eight houses.

Habitat will build the house and the families will pay back the cost of construction interest free based on a cap of 30 per cent of their monthly earnings.

Tswawassenn’s chief is excited because she believes the partnership will help build capacity in her community.

The First Nation currently has a subdivision ready for 30 homes.
