The family of Beverly Littlecrow is scrambling for answers, and looking for justice after the man who was accused of killing her was found not guilty.
“No one really cares if an Indigenous woman goes missing or gets murdered so it’s upsetting but it’s also really sad,” said Littlecrow’s cousin Brittany Deschambeault.
Littlecrow, 36, was died after suffering a head injury in 2016.
Her boyfriend Gabriel Faucher was charged with manslaughter but on Nov. 19 and was found not guilty.
“She was amazing,” said Littlecrow’s friend Jamie Yuzicappi. “She had amazing light she had amazing energy and vibrant and was generous and it’s not fair that she was taken from us like that.”
According to the judge, there wasn’t enough evidence that Faucher attacked Littlecrow – and it was possible that because of a previous head injury that affected her balance, that she may have fallen.
“It’s like living her, her death all over again. after hearing the verdict,” said cousin Diane Littlecrow.
The family is now looking for help.
“The family is requesting an appeal, of the acquittal verdict,” Yuzicappi said. “And today the family is also requesting assistance.
“They can’t do this alone and need help in continuing this fight for justice.”
“We want justice. we want justice for Bev,” added Diane Littlecrow.
