The families of missing or murdered Aboriginal women are taking action to support each other, to end violence and raise awareness.

They held their first “Families of Sisters in Spirit” fundraiser in Ottawa.

The event began with a vigil on Victoria Island to mark the eight anniversary of the unsolved murder of Terrie Ann Dauphinais.

Dauphinais was a young Aboriginal mother who was murdered in her home outside Calgary.

It was a small gathering to honour and remember other victims of violence across Canada.
