Demonstrators knock John A. statue off its perch in Montreal

The controversial John A. Macdonald statue in Montreal is no more.

It was toppled during a “defund the police” demonstration over the weekend.

A now-viral video captured the moment when demonstrators knocked the bronze likeness of Canada’s first prime minister off its pedestal in the city’s downtown core.

The politician has a bad reputation among Indigenous Peoples for his support of assimilationist residential schools.
