Debris from cargo ship gathering on beaches on B.C. Island coast

Debris is now gathering on beaches on northern Vancouver Island from a ship that lost some of its cargo.

Cape Scott is known as one of the most rugged and pristine beaches on the west coast – much of it inaccessible by land.

Air surveillance shows debris scattered across the area.

On Oct. 22, the MV Zim Kingston reported a fire on board. It followed by another call reporting that it had lost 40 cargo containers overboard in rough seas. The number has since grown to 109 containers.
