Operation Nunalivut is underway near Resolute Bay, Nunavut.

The military is using modern technology to explore a ship that sank nearly 200 years ago.

Divers are using remote operating vehicles to explore the remains of the HMS Breadalbane which sunk near Resolute Bay in 1853.

The ship was searching for the ill-fated Franklin expedition which went missing after it set out to find a route through the Northwest Passage. Bad weather and sea ice caused the ship to sink near Beechey Island.

Divers say despite the ship being under water for about 159 years, it is in surprisingly good shape.

This is only the second time the ship has been seen since it sank.
