A Cree NDP candidate in northern Quebec is demanding his Bloc opponent apologize to all Quebeckers implying they are “racist.”

NDP candidate Romeo Saganash said it wasn’t enough for Bloc candidate Yvon Levesque to just apologize to him for saying Saganash’s Aboriginal ancestry was a liability with voters in their riding.

Levesque said some people in the riding of Abitibi-Baie-James-Nunavik-Eeyou wouldn’t vote for Saganash because he is Aboriginal.

Levesque later issued a statement apologizing to Saganash and Aboriginal people in general for his comment.

It’s not enough, said Saganash.

“What he meant was, people will not vote, people from Abitibi, the Quebeckers will not vote for Romeo Saganash because he’s an Aboriginal person that means that he’s saying Quebeckers are racist,” said Saganash.
