The proposed Bill S-3 was the topic of two committee meetings this week in Ottawa.

The minister of Indigenous Affairs offered her apologies Wednesday for how her department handled the engagement process with First Nations.

“While my department tried to do its best within those time constraints the engagement is not as extensive as I would’ve liked and mistakes were made,” said Minister Carolyn Bennett. “My departments failure to directly engage with the plaintiffs was not only unacceptable, but embarrassing for me as minister.”

This is in response to the department’s failure to consult with the plaintiffs who brought the case forward.
