APTN
has been following the proceedings of the First Nation child welfare tribunal.

The case was filed with Canada’s Human Rights Commission by the Assembly of First Nations and the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society in 2007.

The complaint claims that the government discriminates against First Nations children by underfunding the welfare agencies that are supposed to care for them.

In an effort to keep our viewers informed, APTN filed a motion to the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal to allow us to broadcast the proceedings.

All parties, except the federal government, supported APTN’s submission.

APTN’s lawyer is now in Federal Court appealing that decision.
