Aboriginal leaders receive Diamond Jubilee medals

This year marks the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II taking of the throne.

To commemorate the occasion, Canada will be giving 60,000 Canadians the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal.

Gov.-Gen. David Johnston presented some of the medals at a ceremony in Ottawa. Prime Minister Stephen Harper also attended.

Roberta Jamieson, CEO of the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation and Clem Chartier, president of the Metis National Council, were among those receiving the honour.

The medals are presented in recognition of their dedication to their Queen and Country.
