Aboriginal leader facing long list of charges

Police have laid a long list of charges against a former acting grand chief of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs and a former president of the Manitoba Metis Federation.

Police have laid a long list of charges against a former acting grand chief of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs and a former president of the Manitoba Metis Federation.

Billy Joe Delaronde is facing multiple charges of sexual assault and sexual assault with a weapon.

The charges have not yet been proven in court.

Delaronde was the Manitoba Metis Federation president from 1994 to 1997 and the acting grand chief of the Assembly of Manitoba chiefs in 2008.

Until recently he was chief of the Pine Creek reserve in central Manitoba.
