Ottawa is cleaning up Yellowknife’s Giant Mine on the inside, but what about contaminants outside the fence?

The Dene in Yellowknife is wondering if the federal government will be cleaning up the environment around the former Giant mine.

A gold mine in the Northwest Territories has created catastrophic consequences for the environment.

Large amounts of arsenic from the former Giant Mine which operated for more than five decades is now being cleaned up by the federal government.

But that’s remediation is happening inside the fence at the old mine.

The Dene in Yellowknife is raising concerns about what will be done with the contaminated areas outside of the mine site.
