$6.6-billion First Nations refinery rejected by Alberta government

APTN National News
The province of Alberta has rejected a $6.6 billion-dollar proposal for a First Nations-owned bitumen refinery.

It took four years and over $20 million for the Alberta First Nations Energy Center to develop the project, with the support of numerous industry backers and partners in China and India. The goverment itself spent over a million dollars on pre-feasibility studies for the project, before saying that the $5.8 billion-dollar return was “too poor” for the project to go forward.

APTN National News reporter Noemi LoPinto has the details, and the furious reaction from both First Nations leaders and opposition critics.
